Having a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) statement is a powerful way to connect with underrepresented clients in your business.
It signals to others that you are being consciously inclusive. It allows underrepresented clients to pay attention and even take a step closer to your business as they can see you understand the inequity that exists and you are willing to address it and serve in an inclusive way.
Sometimes DEI statements can receive a bad wrap because they can easily be copy and pasted without much thought behind the action. When that happens, it is clear to see it is not in alignment with how the business operates.
However a well written statement speaks about the unique journey the business is on, acknowledging what needs to be done better and the commitment being made to address the inequity.
Don’t underestimate the power of a well communicated DEI statement. It can attract underrepresented clients who are ready to pay and work with you to support them with the service you provide.
