YOU'RE AT THE AWARENESS STAGE

This is a great place to be because your eyes are open to the racial inequities that exist, placing you in a position to do something about it

Press play to find out how to turn your awareness into action

Perhaps you've...

… noticed your coaches, clients, team, and biz-besties are all white

… hosted or attended events/ programs where there’s little to no diversity in the room

… witnessed a horrific tragedy like the murder of George Floyd and read about many others

And in these moments something didn’t quite sit right.

Being the big-hearted business leader you are, you started to question how you could do something about it…

Only to find yourself spiralling down a rabbit hole, and coming up with nothing but a long list of recommended books, podcasts, and educators, a stack of shame, and huge helping of fear and overwhelm.

So before you could dive deeper into this work and take any meaningful action you thought the ‘safest’ option would be to declare yourself ‘muted and listening’.

That is a perfectly reasonable response – one that certainly has a place in this work…

The only problem is when you get stuck there.

You might feel like racial inequity doesn’t affect you directly – that you can stay silent and put this work off for another day.

But the reality is this work isn’t going away…

As a business owner, issues of race and equity deeply affect you and the long-term sustainability of your business.

People are becoming increasingly discerning about who they choose to work with and collaborate with (and not just People of Colour) – and often will make these decisions based on an alignment with your values.

Not to mention the people of the Global Majority are People of Colour.

Which means everyday, People of Colour are scouring the online space looking for coaches to support them. And when white women business owners choose to design their marketing, strategy, and execution around becoming more welcoming and inclusive, those businesses thrive.

You can’t afford to shove the inclusivity and equity pieces of your business to the back burner.

If you’re struggling with getting started, ask yourself this:

What is getting in your way?

Something guided you to take this quiz, so this work obviously matters to you…

But something has stopped you from taking action.

Get curious as to why you feel the way you do.

Yes this work can be overwhelming, and bring up feelings of fear – but isn’t this the case for anytime you do something brand new and out of your comfort zone? (like starting a business?). Growth never happens from a place of comfort and familiarity, growth happens when we continually push ourselves outside our norm.

If you’re waiting to feel more educated/confident/brave enough to step into the spaces designed to support you in this work, you’re missing the point.

That’s like cleaning your house in preparation for your cleaner – totally unnecessary!

Give yourself permission to come to this work messy. To take messy action. And dare I say it… to make mistakes.

Because this is the space where you will deepen your learning, and with time, begin to affect change.

Hey there lovely,

I’m Annie Gichuru, racial equity coach on a mission to help online business owners build racially equitable businesses so they can be intentionally inclusive.

In 2020 as I watched the life of George Floyd being squeezed out of him while he lay helpless on the ground with a knee to his neck, saying he couldn’t breathe, asking for his mama, my heart broke in a way it hadn’t before.

I knew I couldn’t be silent anymore. It was time to start sharing the need for racial equity in my industry.

Being a black woman as well as a migrant has meant often going silent in order to “comply” with the rules and not upset the status quo. As a mother I often think about the legacy I want to leave my children who mean the world to me. I want to ensure they and others who are People of Colour get to see themselves represented in positions of leadership, influence and in business too.

That’s why I’m committed to creating a future where racial equity becomes the norm by supporting online business owners to build racially diverse, inclusive and equitable businesses in a way that honours their values.

If that’s the kind of future you’re interested in too – I’d love for us to journey there together.

Now you know you’re aware, the next move is up to you…
