‘People around you can try to limit you….but at the end of the day you choose the life you want to live and you go look for opportunities.’
A proactive mindset that doesn’t accept the status quo but instead believes life can be different is where change and progress is found.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Zandile Dube lives in Australia and carries a disposition that is one of focus and strength.
She has an unshakeable belief that you can get anywhere you want in life and she knows this to be true because she actively takes the steps to make opportunities for herself.
One of the most incredible moments in our interview was when Zandile revealed she juggled university, TAFE and an internship simultaneously. She did this to strategically position herself and give herself the best chance at a successful career in her field.
Some may say she has drive, passion or no fear, but for Zandile it comes down to so much more than that.
Working in finance she found she was the only person from an African background and it would take an auditing role for her to notice just how widespread this was in corporate Australia.
Zandile’s auditing role saw her placed in new workplaces every few weeks, giving her a real and true insight into workplaces as well as their leadership teams and the cultures represented within them.
Within each business there was no-one like her in corporate leadership positions. There was no cultural diversity.
In this interview we talk about Zandile’s pursuit of cultural diversity, not just for herself but the wider community of migrants of colour and her approach to help as many people as possible through a mentorship program called Immployment Connect.
Zandile successfully launched her initiative Immployment Connect in 2019 to provide opportunities and connections for those who may not otherwise be given these opportunities. She says, ‘You just have to create the path if you can’t see the path for you to get there.”
