Creating inclusive & safeR spaces inside your group coaching programs

One of the things I love about what I do as a DEI coach and consultant is going into group programs to support their participants/clients.

In particular those who identify as Black, Brown, Indigenous or people of colour. Supporting them by providing an inclusive space, so that they can be seen and held. A space they can express themselves with someone who they can actually identify with.

Speaking as both a space-holder and having space held for me, it really does make a difference joining a group program where the person hosting/facilitating the group has actually done DEI work and is continuing to do the work.

Why?

Because the way they “hold space” is much more elevated and inclusive allowing those underrepresented to occupy space more authentically and unapologetically.

Within one group program I was supporting as a DEI coach, one woman of colour said she felt safeR to show up in a space that is predominately white because she felt seen and also respected.

She went on to say others within the program had actually taken the time to find out how to pronounce her name, whereas in other spaces it has always gone undetected and something people haven’t even thought about.

It’s the little intricate details such as knowing how to pronounce a name that can play such a significant role in how someone feels seen inside your program and makes a huge difference to their experience.

If you are a business coach or somebody who puts together group programs, and you haven’t considered collaborating and bringing somebody in who is an expert to hold space for those who identify as BIPOC, consider adding this to your suite of offers.

It will add incredible VALUE to your program and it gives your participants a really outstanding level of service where they experience a deeper level of belonging.
