Serving more people of colour in your business

Annie, what can I do to attract more people of colour into my business? I seem to be only attracting and serving people who look like me.

This is another popular question that comes up from time to time especially to those who are new to DEI work.

Annie, what can I do to attract more people of colour into my business? I seem to be only attracting and serving people who look like me.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with serving people who look like you. Where it becomes a problem is when those are the ONLY people you are catering to.

WHY?

Because it means you may have unintentionally left out people of colour.

To start attracting more diverse clients, begin to understand your behaviour. Have a look at who you are following and who follows you. That’s an indicator of the people who you are attracting and serving.

If you want to grow beyond attracting the same people, then begin to follow and engage with people who do not look like you. People who are like-hearted and share similar values to you who you know you can absolutely serve and add value to their business/life.

Tell me, what’s one step you are taking to build an inclusive business? I’d love to hear from you.

If this is an area you struggle with and you know you need support to unpack this and do better as a business leader and human being, I invite you to book in a 1:1 DEI Consultation.

Here are some of the things we could discuss:

▶ A brave and private space to unpack and seek direction.

▶ An audit of your website and social media platforms and look for ways the language can be more culturally and racially inclusive.

▶ Review/draft a Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) statement one that you can make your own and is a true reflection of how you serve.

▶ Provide you with actionable ways you can continue to grow in your DEI journey.

With Love,

Annie
