Think about the last person who opened a door for you in business. Perhaps they made an introduction, recommended your work or helped you recognise an opportunity you hadn’t previously considered. Those relationships can be incredibly valuable, especially when access to networks, credibility and opportunities hasn’t always been equally available.
There’s so much potential within coaching relationships that extends beyond the expertise being shared. For white coaches who have hesitated to work with women of colour, there’s an opportunity to grow professionally, strengthen their racial literacy and build relationships that can create meaningful opportunities for the people they support.
In this episode, I’m building on last week’s conversation to examine the benefits of cross-racial coaching for both the coach and the client. From developing greater cultural understanding and confidence to expanding professional networks and experiencing what it feels like to be genuinely understood across difference, there’s a lot to gain when these relationships are approached with care, intention and responsibility.
I’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU
If you’ve been hesitant about coaching women of colour or this conversation has given you a fresh perspective on what’s possible, I’d love to hear from you. Send me an email at [email protected] and share where you are in your journey of becoming a more racially inclusive coach.
