How to say goodbye to self-doubt and hello to self-belief. Identifying the 4 most common ways we self-sabotage our potential.
Last fortnight I shared on the topic of ‘You Are Enough’ along with taking you back to my childhood and early adulthood.
Self-doubt was part of who I was for a really long time and stopped my dream of working in television. I moved from Kenya to Australia to study Mass Communication but thoughts of not measuring up crippled me. The very reason I moved to Australia never came to fruition (until recently).
My story is one of reclaiming myself as a woman who is enough.
If you haven’t had the chance to read Part 1 on You Are Enough you can find it here. I wrapped up Part 1 by sharing how immersing myself in my faith and listening to a higher voice to combat the self-doubt means I can:
-
Replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts
-
Regularly remind myself I am enough and have everything I need.
-
Leave behind thoughts of comparison (a topic I will be sharing more with you in the coming weeks)
Before we can become who we are meant to be, we need to extinguish the voice that says ‘you will never be enough’. You may have been listening to this voice for so long that you don’t even realise you’re doing it.
We spend a lot of time talking ourselves OUT of opportunities because:
-
We feel we are not qualified enough – So we seek another degree or another course or something else that will validate who we are.
-
We are waiting on God or something, or someone – When in most cases you just need to make a move, to take action so you can begin to do what you were called to do.
-
The timing is not right – When I get the job, when I get the promotion, when I buy the car, when I buy a new phone, when I have a bigger house. I can assure you the timing will never be right so the time is now.
-
We think we don’t have enough resources (money networks) – Believing the lie that what I need to do requires money and people I don’t know.
Are you reading this and recognising yourself? Has this been your rationale in the way you live?
We are robbing ourselves of opportunities because we are in our own way. But we don’t need to live like this. We need to begin living like we are already enough.
So how do we move ahead? How do we begin to believe that we are enough?
Firstly, it’s the act of being obedient. I have no doubt that when you know you are called to something (even if it doesn’t make sense), the act of obedience activates the miracle and opens the door for blessings.
-
Use What You Have- When you use the gifts you have even though they may not be much; you will notice you begin to live a life that is blessed and multiplied. The little that you use will begin to bear fruit. You may not see the results immediately but with diligence and persistence you will see the results.
-
You are Worthy- I’m here to remind you that you are worthy. You were created with purpose and on purpose. You were not a mistake or a second thought. You were created with a mission and you are the driver of that mission. That mission cannot take place unless you take your position. Remember too, the story you tell yourself is the one that plays loudest in your mind so cultivate a habit of speaking good things into your life.
-
Consider the role you’ve been assigned to play in life- Big or small a number of us have roles we are required to fulfill be it on the homefront or at work.
Take my role as a mother. I’ve come to learn that my role is everything to my family. What I do for my family helps them thrive. No one cooks or cleans like I do. I think ahead for what’s needed and supply it before it runs out. And I’ve learned to embrace my role because that is how I impact my family. I make sure my family feels loved and cared for.
How will you begin to make an impact when you begin to take up the role you were meant to play in life?
It won’t always be easy to see the impact you are having. Especially when you are simply carrying out your role but who knows the impact you can have and the legacy you can leave behind when you become the person you were always meant to be.
I believe You Are Enough. And I want you to experience everything you were called to be.
