After spending two weeks travelling through Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara and Osaka, I’ve returned home thinking about the small moments that made me feel genuinely welcomed, considered and valued. From Japanese hospitality and omotenashi to language, cultural pride and the care built into everyday experiences, Japan gave me a different lens through which to think about belonging and racial inclusion.
